about

When things get bad, you rescue what you can.

This is a song written to accompany the final episode of "The Ruins of Tropicalia," and as such it's about saving as much of the world as you can; and finding the pieces of yourself worth saving. But it's also about what happens when you return from Tropicalia--or from wherever you've Disappeared--to find that your band is kind of splintered and spread out all over... and realizing that there's still a lot more music inside you all waiting to escape... and knowing you can't let it die... and doing everything you can to get that music out, no matter how far apart you all are... coming together again... feeling the magical tug of creation again... not caring how many people hear it as long as we do... writing and recording eight new songs with a common purpose... and trying to distill everything we have been, what we are, and What We Could Be in this last of these eight songs, for better or worse.

And because that felt a bit too maudlin and a little trite, it's also worth saying that it's a blast to play. And Richard Brautigan was a criminally under-recognized badass.

When things get bad, you rescue what you can.

When things get bad, you rescue what you can.
lyrics
When you've got a little time to kill
You drink your wine, you take your pill
You do what mine disasters do
A lot of good people get lost inside of you

A lot of good people get lost inside of you

No way back home
No way home

When things get bad, you rescue what you can

When you've got a little time to kill
You drink your wine, you take your pill
You do what mine disasters do
A lot of good people...

When things get bad, you rescue what you can
